Frequently asked questions
How fast is prompt search?
Search results appear as you type. The search index is loaded into your browser and queried locally, so there's no server round-trip. For most users, results appear in under a second.
What can I search by?
You can search by any keyword in your prompt text. You can also filter by repository, git branch, tool (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini), date range, and working directory. Combine search with filters for precision.
Can I search across all my AI tools at once?
Yes. Prompt Cellar creates one unified search index across Claude Code, Codex CLI, and Gemini CLI. Search once, find results from any tool.
How far back can I search?
As far back as your retention allows. Free accounts retain 30 days. Paid plans get unlimited retention, so you can search prompts from months or years ago.
Are my search queries private?
Yes. The search index is decrypted and queried entirely in your browser. Your search queries never reach the server. We see that you searched, not what you searched for.
Does search work with partial matches?
Yes. Prompt Cellar supports prefix matching and substring matching, with exact matches ranked highest. Typing 'migrat' will find prompts containing 'migration', 'migrate', etc.
